Those were the days my friend...

"Those were the days" 2.5" x 3.5"
Mixed media collage, SOLD

...I am having a walk down memory lane as I go through my old Cd's to rip songs to my mp3. Songs are powerful for me. They evoke a time and place almost instantly in my head. I can remember where I was, what I was doing, who I was with...all from a song. So the memories are thick at the moment. They envelope me and fill my heart with long lost loves, friends and events. The power of music is amazing.

when you wish upon a star...

makes no difference who you are
watercolor 2.5" x 3.5" (ATC)

I have always loved this childhood verse...I painted this ATC from the view point of outer space...we are in outer space if you really think about it...yes?

I made the gold blobs by dropping mica powder bombs from about 15" high while the paint was sill wet...

Mica Powder Bomb - very technical term

newest art doll - Elvira the witch...

I'd like to introduce Elvira the Witch...

Elvira, art doll 6-1/2" tall

She is my newest art doll creation. Her head and arms are vintage German bisque parts I bought directly from Germany. Her body is a block of wood with collaged words all about her. I also did image transfers to add some creepy images on the front and the back. I think my favorite part is that she is holding a creepy metal skull! Her hat is also hand made (by me) and I've adorned her and her hat with vintage jewelry. Her skirt is metal mesh with the jewelry and a daisy. She has a tiny star necklace.

Fibonacci numbers

I am fascinated by the Fibonacci numbers. They are not random and they are represented in all kinds of seemingly non-related ways, such as pine cones, suspension bridges and spider webs, to name a few. I made this collage to represent the first few numbers in the never ending sequence of these amazing numbers.

Many plants show the Fibonacci numbers in the arrangement of the leaves around the stem. Some pine cones and fir cones also show the numbers, as do daisies and sunflowers. Sunflowers can contain the number 89, or even 144. Many other plants, such as succulents, also show the numbers. Some coniferous trees show these numbers in the bumps on their trunks. And palm trees show the numbers in the rings on their trunks.

Math meets science meets art meets agriculture meets architecture. They are all related by Fibonacci numbers! How cool is that?

Illustration Friday - Superstition

When I saw the this week's word "Superstition", I thought of this paper doll, Lady Luck. Superstitions are all about avoiding bad luck.
Her body is an altered playing card and her arms and legs move.
If you look closely, you will see 'lady luck' in tiny print on her.
