...it's been awhile...

I am looking at the steel grey Atlantic ocean...and have been for the last 10 days. It varies in color from slate blue to steel blue and all blues in between.

I have 4 full days left to absorb this magnificent view with billowing clouds and beckoning sea. The willets, pelicans and sea gulls are my constant companions as is the never ending sounds of the trundling waves.

I sleep with my window cracked open to listen to the waves as they roll on the sand. The ocean breeze lulls me into a sweet sleep each night.  Each morning I wake to see the sun rising over the water. My head is just where that crack in the window is, so the morning light wakes me. At night I can see more stars than I ever knew existed. Here on this remote island there is no light of any city here to obstruct Star Shine. It is stunning. This island is 20 miles away from the nearest highway and the closest 'city' is Charleston, SC, not exactly a lit up city to obscure the night sky.

I think of my ancestors who lived on this island 250 years ago, or eleven generations from my granddaughters. They too listened to the waves, saw the birds and wondered about it all...I am blessed to be here and to know from which I came...
